"The workshop was well structured and lead to some very insightful discussion and realisation about our personal and business goals and objectives"

John and I were busy at work developing strategies for new business and realized that we needed to make some time to help gain a deeper acknowledgement of our reasons for being in business and what road blocks were preventing us from achieving our end goals.

A chance discussion with Mark Hann from Tactica Partners eventually lead to our business, Far Data Solutions, engaging the services of Tactica to help us form an initial plan around our key motivations and issues relating to our business, in a way that was reasonably simple in structure but helped provide us with a starting point to launch us on a journey for strategic business improvement.

"We have been so impressed with the level of service demonstrated by the team at Tactica that we recently appointed them to undertake all our accounting work..."

As part of a change in partner's goals we agreed to change the ownership structure by having one partner buy out the other partner. Intrinsic to this decision was an agreement to have the WSS business valued so that the partners could begin negotiations to agree a sale price. We instructed Jeff (our CFO) to run the process and we subsequently engaged Tactica Partners to provide an informal desktop valuation for our internal use.

We found the valuation process undertaken by Tactica met all our needs. We were advised of the scope of work and investment cost upfront by way of a detailed service agreement (SA). The SA also detailed the timeline to complete the project and we were very pleased to have the work completed on time and on budget. The final report was very professional and provided all summary information explaining in detail the basis on which the final value was made.

We were looking for a proactive accountant who was able to help us with various aspects of our business development and were referred to Tactica Partners by an associate.

From the outset it was apparent that Tactica Partners could not only assist with our compliance requirements and day to day bookkeeping issues but could also provide solutions for our various business needs. In particular, during the later part of 2010 we experienced some tightening in cashflow. As part of our refinancing requirements we needed to provide a detailed business plan including profit and loss projections and detailed projections for current and future cashflow.

As seems to be the case in these types of situations it was important for us to deliver the business plan in a relatively short timeframe. Tactica Partners were able to meet these deadlines and delivered a series of documents that helped to secure the additional funding.

Although the funding was an important outcome we became very engaged with Tactica Partners during the process which included utilising workbooks, full day workshops and other discussions to help us gain a much better understanding of our business and, in particular, some of the key drivers which we could focus on to help deliver significant improvements to our business model.

We have been a client of Tactica Partners since October 2007. At this time we had been using an accountant that essentially just dealt with our compliance work, however our business had grown to the point where we felt we needed to get involved with a more proactive accounting business that could assist us in other areas of our business.

Since joining Tactica Partners we have certainly found them eager to be involved in our business. They have made consistent efforts to speak with us and very early on we engaged them to help us develop a Profit and Loss Budgeting spreadsheet that enabled us to track our actual to budget results.

More recently, following the sale of our business, we were able to use Tactica to help us plan for the tax treatment of the resulting capital gain. Tactica were able to provide us with a detailed letter of advice which helped us to understand our entitlement to use the small business capital gains concessions and also provided us with some further strategies to help reduce our potential tax liability.

I have used Tactica Partners as my accountants for my drafting business Kyria Design since 2002. Recently we sold some property from a related unit trust and needed to find out if we could reduce any capital gains tax (CGT) by using the small business CGT concessions. Given the transaction was in the millions we sought a tax opinion from some specialist tax lawyers. The opinion (which was some 60 pages in length) resulted in a positive outcome and we were able to significantly reduce our tax liability by applying the various concessions. We were then referred to Tactica Partners to help us produce the relevant financial accounts and tax returns. As part of this process Tactica Partners worked very closely with the tax lawyers and were able to ascertain that some additional concessions were available to us which helped to further reduce our tax liability and spread the tax liability over a number of years.

Over the many years we have been clients of Tactica Partners we have always been impressed with the high level of service and quality of advice that we have received.

Our Business has experienced massive growth over the last couple of years, with turnover increasing from $3mill in 2005 to $6mill in 2009. During this period we engaged Tactica to run a Focus Mapping Day (FMD) to help us undertake some strategic planning for the business. This involved key staff and ourselves getting out of our office for a day and into the Tactica Board Room to work on our business rather than in our business.

During the FMD we analysed where the business was currently positioned and the roles of key stakeholders within the business. We explored our goals/objectives, identified and prioritised key issues within the business and developed an action plan to address those issues.

Since the FMD we have had quarterly meetings with Tactica to ensure we are following through with the action plan, identify new issues within the business and allocate timeframes for the new issues to be dealt with.

We have previously been involved in numerous strategic planning meetings with other consultants, however we believe the Focus Mapping Day was the most successful in terms of the value provided to us and our business development. The action plan had reasonable and realistic timeframes, the actions were assigned to the correct staff with the right personalities and we were held accountable by Tactica to implement the actions.
